On the occasion of marking the International Day of Migrants, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held its annual global film festival in Egypt from November 28 till December 18, 2018. The festival is organized in order to pave the way to broaden discussions on migration within the wider public, the movies cover topics common on migration, such as Labor Migration, Border Management and Children on the Move. The overall theme for 2018 was called "The Promise and Challenge of Migration and Positive Contributions Migrants make to their Communities". The festival was held simultaneously in more than 100 countries. In Egypt projections were screened in Cairo and Alexandria. On this occasion Antonio Vitorini, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), praised Egypt's support for migration issues, bearing in mind that Egypt is representing home for more than 5 million refugees from 58 different countries. It is important to note that migrants in Egypt enjoy health and education services, as well as employment opportunities without discrimination and that they live freely as part of the Egyptian people.

In the form of efforts to address migration crises, IOM officials signed an International Agreement on the establishment a fair response to mass refuge movements, known as the Global Compact on Refugees, during a conference held in Morocco on 10th and 11th December 2018.
The festival was attended by numerous representatives of the Egyptian film scene as well as ambassadors of countries accredited in Egypt. Embassy of R. of Serbia followed  manifestation and participated at a final part of film festival.
