In addition to officially established diplomatic relations 110 years ago, the ties of Egypt and Serbia date back to the developed Middle Ages. In the second decade of the 12th century, Saint Sava, the brother of the Serbian King Stefan the First-crowned, visited during his second trip to holy places in the East, among others, Egypt. Before he visited the Sinai, he visited the Cairo egyptian sultan Al Malik Al Kamil from the Ayyubid dynasty, who received and hosted him with great state honors. The sultan sent Saint Sava from Cairo to Sinai, supplying him with all necessary things for the journey and giving him gifts of honor as it is in historical sources confirmed as extremely valuable "gifts from the Nile". Mural was exhibited at the consular premises in the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cairo and expressed the long-lasting deep and friendly relations between the Serbian and Egyptian people.
