Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs V. Odalović, during the period from 5 to 8 October 2018, was in a working visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cairo. The visit was realized with the aim of reviewing activities related to the construction of the New Capital City near Cairo and the impending moving of the Embassy. The visit and tour to the Egyptian Government's mega-project - the construction of the "new administrative city" was carried out on October 7th, and it would have planned to displace about 5 million inhabitants, including the president and the presidency, the parliament and Government, all ministries and administrative apparatus of the Arab Republic of Egypt, including the planned resettlement of all diplomatic and consular missions. It is expected that the decision to move the diplomatic and consular missions be made as soon as possible.
During his two-day working visit to Egypt, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs V. Odalović was informed about the current status of the facility in which the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia is located in Cairo, which is owned by the Republic of Serbia, and represents an object of special historical and cultural significance for the Republic of Serbia. It was agreed that, with the consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs activities be carried out in the phases on the plan of restoration and reconstruction of  the facilities of the Embassy, with the support of the Serbian donors, who in the previous period participated in similar activities of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cairo.
